Plastic Free July
We’re coming to the end of #plasticfreejuly, but the focus on choosing more sustainable habits doesn’t stop here.
Per the official group, Plastic Free July is about learning to make small changes. Here’s a quote from one of their posts to kick off this month’s challenge: “choose one single-use plastic to avoid and you’ll soon discover another… and another great solution.”
Here are some additional bullets about Plastic Free July:
Plastic Free July is a charity in Australia but their efforts are global.
The initiative began in 2011 and was founded by Rebecca Prince-Ruiz (the founder of the Plastic Free Foundation) and other local government officials in Western Australia.
Last year, an estimated 326 million people across 177 countries participated.

Here are some quick recommendations on ways to reduce single-use waste.
Reusable bottles
Reusable shopping and produce bags
Reusable sandwich bags
Reusable straws
Ask to skip the straw
Ask to skip the plastic utensils when picking up food
These suggestions may not be possible for everyone, so find ways that YOU can make an impact! And then let me know what some of your favorite solutions are in the comments.
The goal here is progress over perfection, it doesn’t need to be all or nothing. Any improvements you make compound with the improvements everyone else is making.
One more important note - make sure you’re not throwing away items in perfectly good condition to make room for sustainable swaps, as that defeats the purpose. Make sure to finish using or donate what you have.
